About Sustaining Futures
Teaching in prison takes an unexpected toll on the health of college faculty and staff. And if educators don’t have the tools and resources they need to counteract those impacts, the sustainability of their programs — and the fates of thousands of students — are put at risk.
Corrections to College — a joint project of Corrections to College and the Stanford Criminal Justice Center — and The McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University teamed up to address this challenge. We’ve partnered with faculty and staff from 17 community colleges for Sustaining Futures: A Trauma-Informed and Resiliency-Based Community of Practice for California Community Colleges Teaching in Prison. This initiative was designed to help faculty and staff learn how to better navigate the high levels of trauma in in-prison classrooms by providing a contextual framework on trauma and resiliency and by offering a comprehensive set of tools.
